The penultimate round of fixtures of the 2019 season saw leaders Norway Parks Magic FC stretched all the way at neighbours FN Rangers, shading their never say die opponents in a 9 goal thriller, final score 5-4 to Parks. Second placed Saxon Rovers had a tough assignment at 3rd placed Hanover Park, themselves still in the title race, and Rovers knew that nothing less than a win would do, they achieved this with a very hard fought and narrow 2-1 win.
The results have effectively ended Hanover Park’s interest in title honours, and leave Royal Road residents Norway Parks and Saxon Rovers to play out the final day to see who will be crowned 2019 CTTFA Premier League Champions. The permutations are mulit-fold, a Parks win will guarantee it for them, anything but a Rovers win will secure it for Parks. A win for both will see Parks stay top, while a win for Rovers and anything but a win for Parks, will see long time leaders Rovers clinch their first Premier League title by a point or by a superior goal difference.
On paper Rovers look to have the easier task on the day, at home to lowly Sunningdale City, while Norway Parks will need to be at their very best at Hanover Park to secure the points. Come Saturday afternoon around 5:30pm, we will know.
At the other end of the table, as reported before FC Kapstadt kept their survival hopes alive with a 3-2 win over our First team, however Wynberg enjoyed a thumping 4-0 win over Bellville City, their 4th win in their last 5 outings, to stay ahead of FC Kapstadt. The fight for redemption could also go to the last game of the season….both these teams have final matches beyond next Saturday.
Wynberg are at Klazinga Park on Saturday and they know a win will keep them up (they still have one further fixture thereafter).
For our boys, a last shot to end the season on a high in what has been, in truth, a season very short on highs, albeit survival has been secured, just.
